Hopefully these pickups sound good and this could potentially be a good option for other ferringtons down the road. I realize there are no pics here, but I promise I will post some.
If however I dont like the sound it also came with 2 different 1/4" barrel jacks to connect to, so I could potentially remove the original ferrington 1/4" output and install one of these barrel jacks to plug into and use an acoustic preamp pedal or whatever other kind of preamp I want. It also came with the correct plug to simply plug into the ferrington preamp, so to the naked eye it will look and hopefully perform like an original ferrington. It was reasonably priced, the clips I heard online were to my liking and it can be stuck under the bridge inside the soundhole. What I ended up with is a "Journey Instruments" 3 transducer piezo system. I was looking at the I Beam units and such but I dont think they would work due to the guitars bracing. Moving swiftly on, the above-pictured guitar is a Kramer-made Ferrington RT-3, a signature acoustic guitar for the No. I really dont want to see a pickup across the soundhole and I dont want to make any permanent cuts or holes that I dont need. It came out in the early 90s, is trapezoidal shaped, and has tons of guitar porn inside it. Apologies for the lack of a Guitarz post yesterday I was simply too busy to get to use the computer (these days Im trying to get out and about a little more and actually play the guitar rather than just writing about it). I did some looking around at different options that would fit the bracing thats inside the body cavity that would be hidden. I contacted Shadow but they're incommunicado likely due to the Rona or just because I was a small fry customer. I wanted to use the original preamp so afaik (I've never had an electric acousic or piezo) I had to use another piezo of some sort, but as we all know the under saddle ones you can buy are too narrow. I will be carving a new saddle for the bridge out of a block of cocobolo that I have, and I just received a replacement pickup set.
OR Use parts from other guitars to make it functional once more. This is a rarest ferrington made in 1986 with eye fretboard markers as on famous Glide and Bluesbreaker series In 1985-86, Kramer began its relationship with Danny Ferrington, the Nashville-based luthier who built several guitars for celebrities and, himself had became a reputable reputation for new designs of electric/acoustic guitars. Gluing the bridge will be easy, and thanks to this place I got an original pre-amp, however the piezo and saddle bits that I got were ruined and I dont think its worth trying to salvage them. If the parts are no longer available then you only have a couple of options Check ebay and other sites for Kramer Ferrington guitar parts. I myself own a Kramer Ferrington from 1986. In this case I got a decent condition white tele ferrington with no electronics and the bridge removed. As I tend to do I pick up project guitars to save a little money and then spend the savings either refurbishing them if they're worth it or making them more custom to my liking if they're too far gone or not a particularly special piece.
